Pookkaalam

Ganesh Raj's 2023 Malayalam film follows a couple in their nineties. The house holds four generations and the order has run the same way for a long time. On the day of their granddaughter's engagement something unexpected happens. The film turns it into a crisis inside the family; the narrative takes as its subject how hard the young find the old couple's decision to understand, and it makes no one ridiculous. Vijayaraghavan and K.P.A.C Leela lead. The tone is warm and humorous. The production stays in one house. Who it's for: those who like Malayalam family films and narratives about old age. Who it's not for: viewers expecting tension; the film moves calmly.
