What Princess O'Rourke Is About
A romantic comedy built on the meeting of a European princess holidaying in the United States and a pilot with both feet on the ground. She does not say who she is, and because he knows nothing he treats her as an ordinary person; the whole comic engine is how long that ignorance can last. Norman Krasna wrote and directed it, his first film as a director, and won the Academy Award for best original screenplay for it. Hal B. Wallis produced, Warner Bros distributed, and it opened on 23 October 1943. Olivia de Havilland plays the princess and Robert Cummings the pilot, with Charles Coburn, Jack Carson and Jane Wyman in support. Roosevelt appears once, mostly kept behind a door and shown standing rather than in his wheelchair.
