Psychobitch

Martin Lund's 2019 Norwegian film puts Marius, the most conforming student in the class, together with Frida, who is different by her own choice, for a school project. Marius does everything right and likes to be seen doing it; Frida does none of what the system expects. Being made to work together begins a relationship that shakes them both. The film is honest in refusing to make Frida a free-spirited source of inspiration; she is genuinely difficult, sometimes cruel, and in pain. Marius's perfectionism is presented as a burden rather than a virtue. Elli Rhiannon Müller Osborne's performance carries the film. It is one of the few Norwegian youth films to step outside the template. Who it's for: viewers who like Nordic youth drama and stories of difficult relationships. Who it's not for: anyone avoiding content about mental illness, self-harm and suicide, or expecting a romantic resolution.
