Pussycat

The film is built from short stories that look entirely unrelated. Each one is unlike the one before it. There is no visible link between the characters. The viewer enters a new world with every part. The tone changes from section to section. The account moves away from realism into an extravagant register. The actors turn up in unexpected roles. Mikhail Efremov plays a ballerina. Those choices set the temper of the film. Comedy and something darker are folded into each other. As the parts go by, the viewer starts looking for the connection. The answer is kept for the end. In the final section it is explained how all these fates were neighbours. Only then does the link between the characters become visible. The production won prizes at Russian festivals. Mikhail Efremov and Evgeniy Stychkin appear in the ninety five minute film, a Russian production Grigory Konstantinopolsky finished in 2009.
