Queens

Klaudia Reynicke's 2024 film is set in Lima in the summer of 1992. Elena is preparing to leave for the United States with her daughters Lucia and Aurora; the journey requires the signature of the father they have not seen for a long time. Behind the film are power cuts, bombings and daily uncertainty. The narrative does not give these in the language of news but through radio sounds and dark evenings, keeping its focus on the family. Carlos's return makes the preparation harder. The girls try to know their father again and the farewell becomes something both awaited and unwanted; the narrative takes no side.
