What Radio Stories Is About
The film is made of three short stories built around radio contests, all of them tied together by Gabriel, the announcer, and his fiancée. Two inventors who want to patent a piston and have no money, a thief who answers a ringing telephone in the middle of a burglary, and a schoolteacher who enters a contest to pay for an operation in Sweden for a sick child from his village are the people these stories follow. José Luis Sáenz de Heredia’s ninety five minute Spanish comedy is about the place radio held in people’s lives in those years, and it keeps poverty and humour in the same scene. Francisco Rabal, Margarita Andrey and José Isbert star, and it opened on 25 July 1955.
