What Rats Is About

Morgan Spurlock takes Robert Sullivan's bestselling book as a starting point and travels to look at the long, disgusting, unbreakable relationship between people and rats. The camera goes into basements, sewers, rubbish piles and laboratories, following rodent specialists, hunters, and people for whom a rat is dinner. The film delivers its information in the grammar of a horror movie: the music, the lighting and the cutting are all built to make you uncomfortable, and it works. The real subject is not the animal but the cities that feed it, and the habits that built those cities. Anyone squeamish should sit this one out.
