Reedland

Sven Bresser's 2025 Dutch film follows Johan, an old reed cutter. He finds the body of a girl on his own land, and a guilt he cannot name settles into him. The film is not trying to solve the killing. Johan goes on caring for his granddaughter while setting out to find where evil comes from; the narrative makes that search steadily less certain and leaves the viewer alone with Johan's way of seeing. The cast are not professionals and were drawn from the region itself. The images are built on flat land and water, and the sound design comes forward. Who it's for: those who like slow thrillers and cinema that leans on landscape. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a detective resolution; the film leaves the question open.
