Rehana Maryam Noor

Rehana teaches at a medical college, trying to fit being a doctor, a teacher and the mother of a small daughter into the same day. One evening she sees that a student in her own department has been assaulted by a member of staff. The student does not want to make a complaint, and the administration does not want the matter to grow. Rehana decides both to stand by the young woman and to make the man answer for it, and in doing so she puts her job, her students and her relationship with her own daughter at risk. The film happens almost entirely in corridors, under a cold blue light, and it does not take the camera off Rehana’s face. Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s hundred and seven minute work became the first film from Bangladesh selected for Un Certain Regard at Cannes; it was completed in 2021.
