Report to Mother

Purushan sets out for Delhi to do research. Passing through Wayanad he comes across some policemen. The policemen are carrying a body found hanging by the wayside. The body is unidentified. Purushan cannot let that death go. With the help of his friends he works out who the dead man was. His name was Hari and he was a young man who played the tabla. They then set out to tell his mother of the death. Along the way the group grows as people join it. The form of the film is a report a son writes to his mother. The account passes through Kerala politics of the seventies. The work was shot with money raised from audiences and reached viewers through travelling screenings. Joy Mathew and Kunhulakshmi Amma take the leads in John Abraham’s Malayalam film of 1986, which runs a hundred and fifteen minutes.
