Risa and the Wind Phone

Juan Cabral's film is set in a remote corner of Ushuaia. Risa, ten years old and left reeling by her father's death in a fire, is placed with her neighbour Esteban, a man dealing with depression and drink. Over the summer holidays she finds an abandoned telephone booth near the house and discovers she can speak to the dead through it. The film does not turn that discovery into supernatural suspense; it looks at how a child processes grief and at the adults around her failing to handle their own. Elena Romero leads, with Diego Peretti and Joaquín Furriel, and the singer Cazzu makes her film acting debut. The score is by Babasónicos. It screened at Mar del Plata in November 2025 and took best film and best director in the Argentine competition. Who it's for: viewers who want family drama about grief that uses its fantastical element sparingly. Who it's not for: anyone who cannot sit close to the loss of a parent and a child's mourning.
