Satan Triumphant

Pastor Talnox preaches fiercely to his congregation. He urges them to resist temptation. His words are hard and he gives nobody any leeway. Then his own turn comes. One night a storm blows up. There is a knock at the door and a stranger asks for shelter. The man is let in. From that moment the order of the house comes apart. The stranger provokes the pastor step by step. Theft comes first. The fall comes after. What he preached himself slips out of his hands. The pastor’s brother and his wife are in the house as well. The film was made in two parts, and the endings of both parts have not survived. Ivan Mosjoukine and Nathalie Lissenko appear in the eighty seven minute film, a Russian production Yakov Protazanov finished in 1917.
