Saviour Square

Beata and Bartek have two small sons and are waiting to move into a flat of their own. When the developer goes bankrupt and their money disappears, they have to live in Bartek's mother's apartment. The woman has never wanted her daughter-in-law there, and the pressure inside the flat grows by the day. Bartek turns to another woman, Beata is left alone, and the situation slowly closes off every way out. The film by Krzysztof Krauze and Joanna Kos-Krauze starts from a real case and its ending is heavy. The narrative blames no single person; the housing problem, the debt, the hierarchy inside a family and the fact that nobody thinks to ask for help all pile on top of one another. Jowita Budnik plays without exaggeration, which makes it more disturbing. The title comes from a real square in Warsaw, and through the film that square keeps pointing at the opposite of salvation.
