Second Victims

Zinnini Elkington's 2025 Danish film follows Alexandra, a doctor who takes on extra responsibility during a hectic shift in a neurology ward. A misjudgment ends in death, and the film follows what comes after. The concept in the title comes from medical literature: the health worker who is also harmed by an error. The film both uses and questions it; who counts as bearing the consequences of the mistake is the real tension. The hospital management wants to treat the matter as a systemic problem while the family looks for someone responsible. Ozlem Saglanmak leads with Trine Dyrholm opposite her. The narrative is measured and stays away from melodrama. Who it's for: those who like Nordic drama and narratives about medical ethics. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a clear culprit; the film assigns responsibility fully to no one.
