Secuestro Express

Caracas, one night. Carla, from a wealthy family, and her boyfriend Martin are taken by three men as they leave a club. The method is this: drive the victim around for a few hours and get a quick ransom out of the family. While Carla's father puts the money together, the three of them circle the city. As the night goes on it slips out of control, and the kidnappers are as frightened as the kidnapped. The film compresses Venezuela's class divide into the inside of that car. Jonathan Jakubowicz directs; the title is the local name for this kind of crime in Caracas. Mía Maestro plays Carla and Rubén Blades her father. Eighty-six minutes. It was heavily argued over in Venezuela, where the government condemned it and legal action was raised.
