Ajay Kumar is an honest officer newly appointed to head the Lucknow police. His task is to break the organised crime order in Uttar Pradesh. For that he sets up a special task force and takes a physics professor onto the team. Against him stands Gajraj Singh, who has political backing, and the tie between crime and politics is the film’s real subject. The account does not turn a police story into a tale of heroism; it shows the order itself. How far the authority of an honest officer actually reaches is tested throughout. The story draws on a real wave of organised crime in Uttar Pradesh at the end of the nineties. Arshad Warsi, Sushant Singh, Pankaj Kapur and Mahima Chaudhry appear in Kabeer Kaushik’s hundred and thirty five minute Indian film, completed in 2005.
