Set Me Free

Yeong-jae is seventeen and grew up at Isaac’s House, a group home where his careless, irresponsible father left him as a child. He is now old enough that he has to leave, and he does not want to go back to his father. To everyone around him he looks like a model student who wants to become a pastor; behind that he lies and steals. When his father tries to place his younger brother in the same home, all of it comes apart. Kim Tae-yong wrote and directed the film out of his own life, and it looks at the children in these homes from the inside. It opened in November 2014. Choi Woo-shik won actor of the year at Busan for the part, and the film took the citizen critics’ award.
