What Shady Is About
Misa, a high school student, is made the butt of her classmates’ jokes because of her surname and her appearance; she has no friends and is at ease only with the parrot at home and the goldfish in the school science room. When Izumi, the popular girl in the class, comes up to her one day wanting to be friends, Misa is both surprised and, for the first time in her life, excited at the thought of trusting someone. But Izumi’s initial kindness turns over time into something else, and Misa is slow to see who she needs protecting from. Ryohei Watanabe’s ninety four minute Japanese film tells of bullying inside a school in the form of a thriller; Izumi Okamura, Gota Ishida and Hiroki Horikawa are in the cast. It was completed in 2012.
