What Shaolin vs. Lama Is About
Yu Ting, obsessed with martial arts, is looking for a true master, and when he saves the young Shaolin monk Hsu Shi from a gang he takes it as his chance. He persuades the monk to smuggle him into the monastery, but his presence is not welcome and he is thrown out; even so he does not leave the area around the temple. His rescue of a woman from the Flying Eagle gang gives the lama known as the Golden Wheel, a sworn enemy of Shaolin, a pretext to attack the temple. Seeing Yu Ting’s devotion, the abbot decides to take him into the order and teach him its hardest techniques. Lee Tso-Nam’s ninety minute film follows the patterns of eighties martial arts cinema and builds the opposing side as a fictional faction. Alexander Lo Rei appears; it was completed in 1983.
