What Shot! The Psycho-Spiritual Mantra of Rock Is About
Mick Rock was the rock photographer of the seventies. Some of the best known images of the glam and punk generation are his; how that period is remembered was set directly by his frame. This documentary brings back New York, the backstage and those years in his own telling. Barnaby Clay's film is not a straight biography. The hard stretches Rock went through and his addiction are in the telling too; the film neither romanticises them nor reaches for a lesson. Archive footage, photographs and staged sequences run into each other. Karen O and Father John Misty are among those in it. What comes out is a portrait showing the light of a period and its cost at the same time.
