Silent Witness

The daughter of a wealthy businessman is accused of killing her father's fiancée. The evidence is against her and the prosecutor is certain of winning. The father holds his daughter innocent and hires the most expensive lawyer in the country. The family's driver and his wife are caught up in it too. As the trial goes on, new evidence appears, and each new piece ruins the story the last one told. Fei Xing's film uses the shape of the courtroom thriller, but it was made at a time when the genre was little worked in China. What it is really interested in is not the law but public opinion: throughout the trial, the internet and television outside have already reached their verdict, and the original title says as much, the whole people are witnesses. Sun Honglei, Aaron Kwok and Yu Nan are at the front of the cast. The turn at the end requires rereading everything the film has told you up to that point.
