Singapore Dreaming

Loh Poh Huat never got where he meant to go. He takes that disappointment out at home. He is hard on his family. Then he wins money on the lottery. Everyone believes it will be the way out. The man dies suddenly. A long Taoist funeral follows. The ceremony is what keeps the family in one place. It is also where the argument starts. What it is about is the inheritance and what comes next. The film follows the days of six people. Behind them stand the five things Singapore is said to want, cash, a car, a credit card, a flat and a club membership. Those aims wear the relationships down. The tone is both sad and mocking. The film took a screenwriting award at San Sebastián. Richard Low and Yeo Yann Yann appear in the hundred and five minute film, a Singaporean production Woo Yen Yen and Colin Goh finished in 2006.
