John Collins works in Vancouver as a debt collector. His job is finding people who have not paid and taking their goods back. He has been at it for years and he knows he is good. He wants to hold on to his company’s man of the year award. A new hire is handed over to him. Collins takes the young man along and starts training him. They go street by street, knocking on doors. The people they meet are in no position to pay. Collins teaches him how to stay cold about it. But the limits of both men get tested. The work turns into a contest of one upmanship among colleagues. The contest hardens and Collins is attacked with a knife. The days he spends in hospital give him time to think. He begins to question what all that careerism was for. The film looks from inside an order built on buying and owing. David Petersen and John Lazarus appear in the ninety five minute film, a Canadian production Zale Dalen finished in 1977.
