Marina Duksova What Sky Court Is About
Alyona Zvantsova's film is a courtroom story set after death. Andrey and Benjamin are old friends whose work puts them on opposite sides of every case: both serve in a court in the heavens, sharing the roles of defence and prosecution over whether a soul goes to heaven or to hell. It sets the idea up comically and then slides into seriousness, because in one case Andrey's own life enters the room. The man on trial is the one who proposed to his widow. The narrative is not chasing large theological claims; it asks which moments of a life we are entitled to judge it by. Konstantin Khabenskiy and Mikhail Porechenkov play the pair.
