Smiles of Sad Men

At the centre of the account is a writer. Drink has brought the man to the bottom. He is found at a petrol station. After that he is admitted to a treatment centre. There he meets other men. Most of them count as successful on the outside. All of them are there for the same reason. What is said in therapy turns into life stories. The writer grows close to Milan and to Honza. Honza used to be a triathlete. When the treatment ends the writer goes out. But after a while he starts drinking again. He comes back to the centre. Honza cannot hold on outside either. After that the writer takes up running. David Švehlík and Jaroslav Dušek take the leads. The film was adapted from a book by Josef Formánek. Dan Svátek’s Czech film was finished in 2018.
