What Smoking Room Is About
The Spanish branch of an American company has to enforce a ban on smoking in the offices. From now on anyone who wants to smoke goes out to the street. Ramirez, one of the staff in this small and mostly male office, decides this is unfair and starts collecting signatures; what he wants is an unused office turned into a smoking room. The whole film takes place inside the office, in the corridors and on the stairs. Julio D. Wallovits and Roger Gual wrote and directed it together. It was shot on digital video for very little money and takes its force directly from the dialogue and the acting. It won the Goya for best new director.
