What Some Voices Is About
Ray has been in an institution with a diagnosis of schizophrenia and is now discharged into his older brother's care. The brother runs a restaurant in London and is trying both to give him work and to keep an eye on him. Ray stops taking his medication, falls in love, and starts trying to live alongside the voices on his own terms. Simon Cellan Jones adapted Joe Penhall's play. The illness is neither romanticised nor turned into horror; what the film is about is a person being discharged and then left out there alone. It is one of Daniel Craig's early roles and one of his best. Kelly Macdonald and David Morrissey are alongside him.
