Jorge Pinarello's 2022 Argentine film follows a couple going to spend New Year at the house of Manuel's sister. The visit has a second purpose: they mean to ask for help in a very delicate matter. The tone changes with that request. A night that begins as a family dinner slides step by step into tension; the narrative does not announce its genre and keeps the viewer unsure which film they are watching. The cast is small and the setting a single house. The budget is low, the camera works in tight space and the tension comes from talk more than from light. The close is short and hard. Who it's for: those who like Latin American independent thrillers and single-location films. Who it's not for: viewers who want explanation; the film leaves the reason for what happens largely open.
