Sorry If I Call You Love

An advertising man in his forties, just out of a long relationship, meets a twenty year old after colliding with her in the street. She is interested; the people around them are not. The film sets up the age difference as an obstacle without questioning it; the narrative gives its weight to whether he can leave his previous relationship behind. Madrid and the coastal locations are shot in a deliberately advertising-like style. Joaquin Llamas directed, adapting Federico Moccia's novel. It is the Spanish remake of the earlier Italian film of the same book. Before watching: the girl is younger in the novel and the film raises her age. Even so, the narrative presents the relationship as wholly romantic and never discusses the imbalance of power.
