What Sudden Fury Is About
Fred is trying to talk his wife Janet into putting money in a shady land deal. She refuses, the argument carries on along the back roads of Ontario, and the car crashes. Janet is badly hurt and Fred walks away from the scene hoping she will not last the night. What follows is built on the hours a man spends trying to make his own arithmetic come out right. Brian Damude directed it and it opened on 7 November 1975, in the very first years of Canadian cinema’s tax shelter era; it is counted among the earliest and harshest examples of the strain later called canuxploitation. It was nominated for best motion picture at the twenty-sixth Canadian Film Awards. Damude had made mostly short films up to that point.
