Sunny Side

Måns Herngren's 2017 Swedish film was carried to cinema from the television series of the same name and follows three couples on their summer holiday in Torekov. Divorces, the wish for a child, odd parents and the unwritten rules of the beach are its material. The series' humour is built on class: upper-middle-class Swedes trying to feel at ease and constantly failing. The film keeps that tone but, stretched to feature length, some sections repeat. The cast is the same as the series and works perfectly together. For anyone who has not seen the show the characters' histories do not open up and part of the humour is lost. Who it's for: viewers who like Swedish comedy and follow the series Solsidan. Who it's not for: anyone new to the series, or who will find the class humour too much of an in-joke.
