Sweeney!

An informant comes to Jack Regan of the London robbery squad: his girlfriend was killed and it was dressed up as suicide. Regan starts looking into it. The trail leads to a politician and from there to an oil deal. Before long Regan himself becomes the target; he is taken off duty and put under investigation. David Wickes's film came out of the television series of the same name, with John Thaw and Dennis Waterman continuing in their parts. The cinema version is darker and harder than the series. The telling does not clear the police either: Regan's methods are not within the law and the film does not hide it. Ian Bannen plays the politician. It runs ninety-seven minutes.
