What Swept from the Sea Is About
In 1888 an emigrant ship bound for America goes down off the Cornish coast, and the only survivor washed ashore is Yanko Goorall, a Ukrainian peasant who speaks no English at all. The village is frightened of him. Amy Foster, a servant everyone around her treats as simple, is not, and what grows between them is something the community will not tolerate. Beeban Kidron adapted Joseph Conrad's 1901 story Amy Foster, a fact this record omits entirely while also giving Yanko the wrong nationality. Rachel Weisz and Vincent Perez lead, with Ian McKellen as the doctor.
