Taxi No. 9211

Raghav drives a taxi in Mumbai; he is in debt, lives in a small house with his wife and son, and spends his days with passengers who test his patience. Jai is the son of a wealthy businessman; his father has died and he must reach a court hearing to receive the inheritance. The two meet by chance in the same taxi. A small argument grows, Jai misses the hearing, and from that day the two men set about systematically wrecking each other's lives. Milan Luthria turns class difference directly into conflict. The narrative vindicates neither of them; both go further than they should and the chain of revenge does nobody any good. Nana Patekar plays Raghav and John Abraham plays Jai. The difference in the two actors' styles carries the difference between the characters. Who it's for: Viewers who like Indian comedy thrillers, narratives of class conflict, and city stories. Who it's not for: The reconciliation in the final quarter comes too easily. The women also occupy functional roles in the narrative.
