Terra Nova

The near future. Capital punishment has been abolished and the prisons cannot hold the number of serious offenders any more. The solution arrived at is this: put the most dangerous of them on a deserted island and see whether they can build an order of their own. The first group is sent from Russia. The island is empty, there are no rules and there is no way back. The order that forms is not the one anyone expected; the only way to stay alive is to stand next to whoever is strongest. Aleksandr Melnik directs, with Konstantin Lavronenko. It runs close to two hours, most of it shot in the empty country of northern Russia. The premise is science fiction; what it describes is what people do to each other.
