What That Evening Sun Is About
Abner Meecham is eighty years old. He walks out of the nursing home and goes back to his farm in Tennessee, only the farm is not his any more: his son leased the land, without asking him, to Lonzo Choat, a man Abner has despised for years. Abner moves into the old tenant house on the property and refuses to leave. The pressure between two stubborn men builds day by day, and Lonzo's teenage daughter is caught in the middle of it. Scott Teems wrote and directed his first feature from a William Gay short story. Hal Holbrook plays Abner, in one of the most discussed performances of his career. The film won the audience award and the special jury award for ensemble cast at SXSW in 2009.
