What The Anchorite Is About
For eleven years Fernando Tobajas has not left the bathroom. He has set up a small arrangement for himself in there. He does not step outside. He has given up everything he had. Only his vanity is still in place. His tie to the world runs along two paths. One is the visits of his friends. The other is the notes he sends down the toilet. He puts the notes inside aspirin tubes. His hope is that someone will find them. That way his existence will be known. One day Arabel Lee finds one of the notes. The woman follows his trail. Fernando Fernán Gómez and Charo Soriano take the leads in Juan Estelrich March’s Spanish and French coproduction of 1976.
