The Beat Beneath My Feet

The Beat Beneath My Feet is director John Williams's feature debut, starring Luke Perry as a reclusive former rock star who faked his own death eight years earlier to escape tax fraud charges. He begins mentoring his young neighbor Tom (Nicholas Galitzine, in his film debut) in music. The film had its world premiere at the British Independent Film Awards on December 7, 2014, and screened at the 65th Berlin Film Festival on February 11, 2015, where it was nominated for the Crystal Bear. Reviews were mixed: The Guardian criticized some clichés while praising Perry's performance, and the Los Angeles Times found it slow paced but likewise praised Perry. Who it's for: anyone curious about a British music drama, marking an actor's film debut, about a former rock star who faked his death mentoring a young neighbor. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a fast paced, plot driven film, since critics flagged pacing issues.
