The Bridesmaid

Philippe is a hard-working, respectable young man living with his mother and two sisters. At his sister's wedding he sees one of the bridesmaids: Senta. She reminds him of a statue in the garden and he is taken with her at once. Senta accepts him at once too. But as the days go on the things she says get stranger. To prove their love is real, she tells him, each must give the other four things. The fourth is a murder. Claude Chabrol directs, adapting Ruth Rendell's novel, with Benoît Magimel as Philippe and Laura Smet as Senta. It is Chabrol's usual subject: the rot inside a family that looks perfectly respectable from outside.
