What The Castle Is About
A family who love their house beside the airport are served a compulsory purchase order, and the father refuses to accept it: to him it is not a property but a home. Rob Sitch shot it very fast on very little money and the poverty never shows, because the comedy comes entirely from the dialogue. In Australia its lines passed wholesale into daily speech. The family could easily have been made ridiculous and are not: the film finds their taste funny and not them. The courtroom section is unexpectedly moving.
