The Cat Who Walked by Herself

A mother and father put their child to bed and leave the room. When the child begins to cry, the Cat comes in to keep him company. The child grabs her tail and the Cat, annoyed, reminds him that they agreed a thousand years ago that he would not do that. Seeing that he remembers nothing, she sighs and decides to tell the story from the very beginning. The account opens in the time when the planet was young and life on earth was starting with the dinosaurs. The film was adapted from a story and made with puppet animation. The tension between being tamed and staying independent is its real subject. Ideya Garanina’s seventy minute Soviet animated film was completed in 1988.
