What The Culpable Is About
Jakob, Dominik and Oliver are close friends and also priests; they play football together and believe the church can make the world a better place. When the accusation appears that Dominik sexually abused a boy, Jakob’s world falls apart. While the church would rather close the matter quietly, Jakob is caught between his loyalty to his friend and what he owes the child, and decides to find out the truth himself. The film turns its question not on the institution’s standing but on whom the silence serves. In Gerd Schneider’s ninety six minute German film, Sebastian Blomberg plays Jakob and Kai Schumann plays Dominik. It was completed in 2015.
