One day a handsome, mysterious stranger walks into the square of the town of Villaserena, sets loudspeakers up all around it and starts playing music. Before long he is selling airtime to the locals, and people begin sending each other declarations of love over the speakers, and, more often, insults. The more the town hears its own voice, the less peace it has. Also inside the account are Abelardo, the young Celeste, whom her father keeps chained in the house so she cannot run, and Jose. What sound does to a town is both the comedy of the film and its actual subject. Dario Grandinetti plays the lead in Paolo Agazzi’s hundred and eight minute Bolivian film, completed in 1999.
