The Dream Team

When the American basketball team arrived in Barcelona in July 1992 it created a crowd with few equals in Olympic history. The roster held Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing and Karl Malone; eleven of the players later entered the Hall of Fame, along with three from the coaching staff. Chuck Daly was in charge. Opponents were having their photographs taken with them before the games. Zak Levitt's documentary covers more than the run of wins; it covers the tension inside the team as well: who played with whom, the business between Jordan and Isiah Thomas, and the closed-door scrimmage that is now treated as legend. American basketball putting professionals into the Olympics for the first time was a commercial decision as much as a sporting one, and the documentary does not skip that either.
