The Enforcer

A collector works in Miami: Cuda gathers debts for his boss, makes threats and kills when required. He has done the same job for years and asks no questions. In a nightclub he runs into a fifteen-year-old girl and realises she has been drawn into an online prostitution network. The person running it is his own boss. The subject is not crime but a man choosing for years not to know what he knew he was part of. Cuda is no hero; he simply finds a limit, and the film does not try to make anyone forget everything he did up to it. The form is direct and short. Cramped locations, unshowy action and a running time under ninety minutes. This is not a large-scale action production; it keeps its resources limited and does not hide it. Antonio Banderas carries it. In this stretch of his career he worked in many low-budget genre films and this is a typical example; he takes the role seriously and the film stands on his presence. Kate Bosworth plays the boss and Mojean Aria his young partner. Richard Hughes directs. Who it is for: viewers who like short, direct action films. Who it is not for: anyone after originality; the narrative is entirely familiar and holds no surprises.
