Magdalena Popławska What The Girl from the Wardrobe Is About
Three people and three separate kinds of solitude: the brothers Tomek and Jacek, and their neighbour Magda. Tomek has put distance between himself and the world because of a neurological illness, Jacek lives mostly through the internet, and Magda has shut herself away in the most literal sense. Bodo Kox’s film is about the three of them making contact: the love one brother has for the other, and two strangers finding each other. It is set in Poland but the loneliness in it belongs everywhere. It treats oddness not as a defect but as a language.
