The Goddess of Fortune

Alessandro and Arturo have been a couple for fifteen years and the distance between them can no longer be hidden. At a friend's request two children come to stay with them for a while. Their presence is first a new weight on the relationship and then an unexpected opening. Ferzan Ozpetek directed and wrote the screenplay with Gianni Romoli and Silvia Ranfagni. Stefano Accorsi plays Arturo, Edoardo Leo plays Alessandro and Jasmine Trinca plays Annamaria. Serra Yilmaz, a constant in Ozpetek's films, is in the cast again, alongside Barbara Alberti and Sara Ciocca. Gian Filippo Corticelli photographed it and Pasquale Catalano wrote the score. It runs 118 minutes. It opened on 19 December 2019, distributed by Warner Bros. Who it is for: viewers who like Ozpetek's crowded dinner tables, the idea of chosen family and Italian melodrama. Who it is not for: anyone put off by emotional beats being underlined. The director does not hold back here either.
