The Home Song Stories

Rose is a woman who sings in nightclubs. She had been working in Hong Kong. There she meets an Australian sailor. She marries him and goes to Australia. She has two children with her. Her daughter is called May and her son Tom. The years fall in the sixties and seventies. Holding on in the new country does not come easily. The marriage does not last long. Rose moves from one house to another. She takes up with new men and each time something breaks. The children grow up inside that arrangement. Years later Tom tells what happened. Joan Chen and Qi Yuwu take the leads, with Joel Lok and Irene Chen also in the cast, in Tony Ayres’s Singaporean and Australian coproduction of 2007.
