Mike Boettcher K Kalen M. Waite What The Hornet's Nest Is About
Mike Boettcher has been reporting from war zones for years; his son Carlos is going to the front for the first time. The two of them go into a valley in Kunar embedded with American units in Afghanistan. An operation planned for three days runs to nine, and the fighting never lets up. Everything on screen was shot from inside the firefight. David Salzberg and Christian Tureaud's documentary makes no attempt to analyse the war; it gives those nine days as the soldiers had them. Another of its subjects is a father and a son: the man missed raising his boy because he was always at some front, and now the two of them are in the same position.
