The House

After their father's death three siblings return to the house they grew up in. The plan is to sell it and go back to their very different lives. But there is a memory in every corner: shelves their father built with his own hands, jobs left unfinished, the tree in the garden. As the decision to sell keeps being postponed, the siblings start doing what they have not done for a long time: spending time in the same house. Álex Montoya's film adapts Paco Roca's graphic novel La Casa. The narrative leans not on plot but on daily tasks: cleaning, repairing, cooking, and the conversations in between. Grief here is shown not as a crisis but as a process of maintenance. David Verdaguer, Luis Callejo and Óscar de la Fuente play the siblings. The film won best screenplay, best music and the audience award at the Málaga Film Festival in 2024. Who it's for: Viewers who like quiet family drama, graphic-novel adaptations, and Spanish cinema. Who it's not for: Almost nothing happens and it is slow for anyone waiting on events. The emotional resolution is also too tidy.
